What to expect

The Tools For Your Trade voucher initiative process is as follows:

1. CHECKING ELIGIBILITY (Eligibility Verification Form)

You will be posted an Eligibility Verification Form (EVF) when your Australian Apprentice has been employed for three months. The purpose of the form is to assess your apprentice's eligibility for the Tools For Your Trade voucher initiative.

The form needs to be completed by you and your Australian Apprentice. Please make sure that you answer every question on the form and that it is signed by you and the Australian Apprentice, or it will need to be returned to you.

2. TOOL KIT PURCHASE (Purchase Verification Form)

On confirmation of your Australian Apprentice's eligibility, you will receive a Tool Kit Purchase Pack.

Follow the instructions in this pack carefully. This pack provides you with the necessary details to enable you to purchase the tools.

Voucher card activation

Please note all vouchers will need to be exchanged for tool kits on or before 31 October 2009.

In the Purchase Pack, we provide a personalised voucher card that you must activate before using it to buy the tool kit on behalf of your Australian Apprentice.

You can activate your voucher card by calling 1800 557 875 and answering a few simple questions. We also provide instructions for you and your tool supplier as part of this kit.

Purchase Verification Form
Purchase Verification Forms must be returned to Tools For Your Trade before 31 December 2009.

Your Purchase Verification Form (PVF) is also included in this pack. It must be completed at the time you buy the tool kit. You and the tool supplier must sign this form before leaving the store
with your purchases.

Please ensure you answer questions 11 to 16 then sign, date and initial the form.

We recommend that you keep the voucher, this letter and the Purchase Verification Form together when you visit your tool supplier.

Using the voucher card to buy the tool kit

Tools For Your Trade voucher cards are valid for three months from the date of issue and can only be used to purchase tools for the Australian Apprentice named on the card, provided that the Australian Apprentice is still employed by you, and is not on suspension, when you make the purchase.

Due to the cessation of the Tools For Your Trade voucher initiative, all vouchers must be exchanged for tool kits on or before 31 October 2009.

Please note: Replacement voucher cards are only valid for one month from the reissue date.

You can use the voucher card to purchase appropriate trade tools, protective clothing and footwear from the supplier of your choice. You cannot use the voucher card to buy ‘consumable’ or ‘disposable’ goods (items that get used up), and it is not transferable for cash or gift certificates.

The choice of eligible tool suppliers is yours, and you can use more than one outlet to purchase your tools. We strongly recommend that you ensure your preferred tool supplier is registered with Tools For Your Trade at the time of purchase, or prior to purchasing the tools.

3. TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP (Ownership Verification Form)

Initially, the tool kit will be provided to you, the employer, for your Australian Apprentice to use.

It is a condition of the voucher Initiative that full ownership of the tool kit transfers to your apprentice nine months into his/her Australian Apprenticeship.

Once the nine-month point as been reached, the Tools For Your Trade Team will send you an Ownership Verification Form (OVF) to confirm that the transfer of the tool kit to your Australian Apprentice has taken place. We’ll need signatures from both you and your Australian Apprentice.

If the Australian Apprentice leaves before this time, you are able to keep the tools. If you wish to hand over the tools to the apprentice earlier than the nine-month period, this may be done at your discretion.
